It was a bittersweet day. Today was the funeral of my sister-in-law, Lucia Garcia Acuña. We celebrated her life and the impact she made on so many people. It was a time for family and this occasion brought us all together. She was buried next to my brother, Arturo Acuña who passed a year and a half ago. I am picturing sitting on a sunny porch with a warm breeze blowing and he serenading her with his quitar. OR. They might be in Vegas! They are together. We miss them dearly.
In a surprise gesture, the family asked at her request that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the South Texas Literacy Coalition. She was an educator and served in schools in Corpus Christi where there was poverty. She valued my work and for that I thank her and will keep the work in Literacy going. RIP, Luci -Ida❤️11

Thank you volunteers! We couldn't do this without you. These volunteers dedicate their time and energy every week to organize free book distributions in the community. Thousands of books make it into the hands of children and adults every year because of their efforts. Thank you board members for a decade of service to the South Texas Literacy Coalition! |
